POLITICS, AND TECHNOLOGY MAKES US BRAINLESS

In this book George Orwell tried to show how one country like great Britain that was a country that wasn’t totalitarian like Russia and Germany Nazi that were in war at that time so he started to wrote how would be a country that was not totalitarian could be, so he wrote it in a different way.
In the first chapter of 1984 by George Orwell we start to see how the society of London, Oceania, have a social control on their town, how they divide in 4 parts: Miniature, Minipax, Miniluv, and Miniplenty. There are many topics that are related with this topic , like for example the unconscious part of our bran, that controls one part of us, in one moment when Winston starts to shout out to Goldstein, like the other the other people he didn’t even know that he was shouting after a while, and when he’s writing something inside him tells him that he have to write that for unburden himself of everything that he have lived in all his life that is routine that he have been living since he was born. There is other topic that approaches this theme, the Sapir-Whorf theory, which establishes the uses of language’s on the human being, taking into account other aspects of humans.
George Orwell wrote about a society governed by a totalitarian macro state, the party has constantly the society monitored by a telescreen. The meaning of social control is how the same society gives a control for them to maintain in discipline. The book shows an utopian future, which is not so far of the reality if we compare what we are living socially and if we compared to the future that the author gives us we might see that this theory is no so wrong, we can take by example, from the camera of your computer they would like something alike to the telescreen, is to say that we are monitored in a different way, in current times they are not watching us with our permission but slightly, and sometimes hidden, and in the book there shows that we cannot have privacy because in other words, they create their own people with fear, that might be one thing that is happening in current times, they have laws like we have laws, it may be a good laws for us to keep being humans, but some are stupid like law 100 created by the ex-president of Colombia; “Law 100 is a model of neoliberal policy imposed by external agencies to condition international loans especially. It was elaborated during the Government of Gaviria and put into operation during the Samper administration. Its speaker was Dr. Alvaro Uribe Vélez.” In some way Colombians, not all but majority, is not aware of what this law is really about, but in 1984 happens that they know about it but they don’t want to get aware of what is happening to them; or simply they don’t want to deal with it (big brother). There are three important terms they use and I think that is a clue over this book that are: WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGHT, this three concepts George Orwell uses on his book this concepts that might be right in some way, the reason why I say that it might be right is because they have a different regime in the book, that which I have right now, but in some way Winston is tired of this concepts that he has been living through all his life and he is really tired of this, so that’s why he started writing on the book that he wasn’t allowed to buy so he started to write all that he have oppressed through his life, although he though different than the other he didn’t do anything until the moment.
Winston is someone who is tired of the rules of his country or his division (Oceania) but he don’t show it and don’t manifests, he only follows the rest of the society by following the rules of BIG BROTHER, but when he bought that blank book he started to manifest with himself (after a while) first and then he started to have a revolution with his own thoughts and feelings, he started making questions he always wanted to asked, and that’s why he started with an alike to a diary, although he was killed only for thinking, he wrote: DOWN BIG BROTHER, so he started to think that he would be in danger every time he wrote or thought about something bad of BIG BROTHER. The way George Orwell narrates this book with every details of each landscape and of how Winston is feeling about all his life how is feeling about all people is something that Winston set free on his unconscious, how he express in a way that it seems that he wants to set himself free. Because he is tired to see the same people the same landscape the same activity the same routine each day that he needs a book to let it all go. Related with the book of Nietzsche we can say that he is living an apollonian life which is bored, and when he describes one girl with contempt; because is one thing he have repressed, the love, not only of a woman but of the nation too cause if the nation doesn’t give love, docent give hope, and faith there will always be one person who would be in disagreement, because he is repressed with something he haven’t had and is obviously that he wanted a nation without all thing that he describes like for example the bombs, the clothes, the food, and the way of life, that would be his repressed life the Dionysian life, and bit by bit he is showing hiss repressed part, the part that he always wanted to be, the person he always wanted to be. When he looked at O’Brien he adored him because he thought that O’Brien thought the same as he thought so he in some way adored him because when he thought O’Brien was thinking like him he have the hope that someday the BIG BROTHER goes down, but when he stars to distrust him, he didn’t adore him the way he adored before.
George Orwell starts to invent a language called neoliguism, which each person of each group of Oceania have a dictionary in that book; George Orwell may show us that the Sapir- Whorf theory is shown in the book, creating a new language which was named before, “the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis states that there are certain thoughts of an individual in one language that cannot be understood by those who live in another language.” The theory is giving us an important clue about the beginnings of the started book, and that George Orwell take into account his culture, what he knows about his language, and the literature he read at that moment, or not exactly literature but things that he was living in that moment or things he saw, he have many influences from his studies, so he wrote about, what he studied, about his language, and about things he saw and thought that he would live if he would be in that moment. So like the definition of this hypothesis says we can deduct that, he wrote about what he knew, because is impossible to write about things that we don’t know.
Other topic that we can relate with the book of George Orwell is the urban decay in that moment, when they don’t have any electricity, or clothes or provisions or something that the society didn’t have in that moment that was necessary in their life’s like the breathing; they have the provisions below their necessities and if they have a feeling of a revolution or hate to the BIG BROTHER they are punished by the law so they have no right to be themselves, they have no right to be someone they really want to be, even though Goldiner did it and no one knows if he scape or what happened to him but everyone knew that they, and the matter is that all Oceania hate him because he was a revolutionary but they didn’t saw what they was living in that moment that each day was grey, if it was summer, autumn the sky would always be the same, and the days would be always the same with bombs, with the 2 minutes of hate, with everyone protesting in those 2 minutes of hate, and for someone (like Winston) would be boring know the same people, and that makes a wish of creating new rules new laws creating a new life being a new person, makes us create the feeling of wishing change all over our lives son that would be a reason of wishing something that in a society is impossible so if we start to think about what we could change we could change many laws many politics many governors and the changing of the destination of our lives.

As a conclusion I may say that in this book we can not only found this topics but we can find topics like power, fear, totalities, physical and emotional control, technology, control of information and politics, mind control, and many more topics we could see and relate with this book which is a book that shows real life and currently in different ways but the same rules same orders. There are many ways in which all are connected to have a “perfect” nation city or country even to have a perfect world, so they start to controlling people minds by different methods like for example TV news which almost all are sensational, where they only put news that are benefits for them and not what they have to put as people, so they start to control the way of thinking of people in their society, and also they make that people stay blind with topics of truth and make or create brainless people, that are ignorant that they don’t know which is the truth. evenethought he’s wiring about what would happened in the future if there is a warming this moment what he describes how would be war if we have technology as principal character, our day would be so routinely and bored, every days would be dead and it would be normal for us, even we could laugh of that, like it happens in the movie that he watched yesterday in the book, and he describes how all people start to laugh because one fat man dies in the ocean, so in some words it describes how it may or might be our life in time of war with technology. If there were a war, it would destroy the way of thinking and our brain and the generation would be more ignorant people in our life then we could have more technology but we’re going to be more ignorant in the way of thinking how we would act how we would talk, many reasons why we are going to have a non-society.
In the book of George Orwell for me there are many things that he is not agree too, is the way of rule the country or city, that’s why I think he wrote about that because he wasn’t agree of what was happening with that moment and what would happened if they continue in war, more than anything, a technological war so when Orwell describes all landscape like a really torture he couldn’t think in the way that he wanted because they take out their lives no matter what, if they don’t do think they want them to think they kill him only for that they take out the life of one person that could be the hope, for a desired society, a free society and more than anything there may be a happy society loving what they do what they think and what they feel, a society without rules.
